The Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their sixth annual Holiday Cheer Tour this Friday from 5-9 p.m. providing the perfect opportunity for patrons to visit downtown retailers while enjoying a festive sampling of holiday spirits and hors d'oeuvres.
Mary Kucenski, Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce administrative assistant, is expecting a strong turnout. This year's tour has expanded from years past and will extend as far as the West End Grocery along Oak Street to Today's Carpet & Furniture along North Broad Street.
Kucenski said more retailers are involved this year than ever.
Last year's event drew 132 patrons from Ridgway and neighboring communities.
"We are expecting somewhere close to that this year," Kucenski said. "We have had a ton of phone calls and Facebook messages in the past couple days asking where to get tickets."
All of stops on the Holiday Cheer Tour will supply hors d'oeuvres, local wines, hot spiked cider, egg nog and/or micro-brewed beer as well as feature special promotions, drawings and giveaways that will continue into Saturday and the Yuletide shopping weekend.
"The guests who come from other communities that have never been here will generally either call or complement how much they enjoyed the Cheer Tour and come back to see the specialty shops," said Main Street manager Michelle Bogacki. "They do come back and that is the hope - to get those first time shoppers in the door. From talking to the retailers, they do see an increase in shoppers from outside communities."
