JOHNSONBURG – To kick off the holiday season, the Johnsonburg Recreation Board is sponsoring a Santa Gathering to welcome Santa on Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Johnsonburg Community Center.
The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There will be music performed by Bells of St. Marys and the Grey Knight Drum and Bugle Corp. Games, activities, crafts and face-painting will be provided for the children. A soup, bake sale and Chinese auction will be conducted and proceeds benefit the Johnsonburg Community Center.
The Chinese auction will feature donated items from local merchants and homemade products from local vendors. Later, a parade will welcome Santa who is set to arrive at 5 p.m.
The event is centered on family and a way to start up holiday joy.
“It is a really nice community event,” Chris Bressler, employee at the community center said. “It is not just for little kids. You get whole families. Kids come with their grandparents who want to hear the music.”
Also being held on Sunday is the fifth holiday open house at the Flemish House Art Gallery located in the community center. The open house begins at 1 p.m. and runs until 6:30 p.m. There will be displays featuring artists from all over the region including the works of Patricia Eckstrom and her new framed mixed media work.
Stacie Johnson-Leske, a ceramics artist will feature her line of pottery cups, goblets, oil lamps, and serving dishes.
“Stacie has been featured in many other galleries,” said Stephanie Distler, owner of the Flemish House. “But this will be her debut at the Flemish House.”
Distler will also debut a new line of her artisan jewelry including metal-stamped and forged pendants, tiered necklaces, earrings, rings, and silver work.
“There will be different things for people to buy as gift giving items,” Distler said. “There will also be featured artists creating their work during the open house. That way people get a feel for the artist and the whole spirit behind their work.”
