JOHNSONBURG – The Borough of Johnsonburg, Johnsonburg Chamber of Commerce and the Johnsonburg Rotary Club held a special ceremony Monday afternoon along Market Street to dedicate two benches; one in honor of Louis "Lulu" Cherry and the other to Willis "Bill" Simon.
Cherry married Nancy (Grunthaner) Cherry. He lived all of his life in Johnsonburg and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1954. He worked for Johnsonburg Borough for 40 years, retiring in 2009 as Street Supervisor. He was a member of Central Hose Company.
In addition to his wife of 21 years, he is survived by five children, Dino Cherry of Kane, Albert Cherry of Kersey, Nicklous Cherry of Johnsonburg, Donna Waigand of Kane, and Cindy Lupino of Ridgway; five stepchildren, David Wolff, Robin Wolff, Kathy Hefright, Lori Smith, and Joseph Wolff, all of Johnsonburg; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, John “Chisel” Cherry, Thomas Cherry, and Joseph “Butch” Cherry, all of Johnsonburg; and three sisters, Janice Esposito of Brockway, Annie Polaski of Johnsonburg, and Elaine Myers of Johnsonburg.
