Lloyd B. Gray Sr., age 81, of Jefferson Street, Byrnedale, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 11, 1930 in Sheffield, son of Lloyd Byron “Chizzy” Gray and Jane (Wilt) Gray, deceased.
A graduate of Bennett’s Valley High School, Class of 1950, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1959 attaining the Rank of First Class Ship Fitter. He had visited 31 foreign Ports in his Navy career aboard the USS Bristol and the USS Yellowstone.
He worked in the local coal mines in his younger years and as a metal worker, fabricator and welder for most of his life. He was employed by CG Brunckow in Rhode Island for 15 years and retired from Quality Components of St. Marys in 1992 after 14 years.
He was a member of the Bennett’s Valley American Legion.
He was born in Sheffield, raised in Weedville, lived 23 years in Rhode Island and returned to Bennett’s Valley in 1972.
He is survived by one son, Lloyd B. and his wife Pam Gray Jr. of Byrnedale,; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul R. and his wife Nadine Gray of Washington; and one sister, Connie Bellas of DuBois.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Orlin and Zane Gray; and four sisters, June Aiu, Ada Leasgang, Alice Roussell and Pearl Rezsutek.
Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 13, 201l from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield, and Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 from 10-11 a.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield, with Pastor Luther Nelson, Jr. officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Bennett’s Valley Legion Post 978 Burial Detail.
Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Weedville.
