Milfred H. Nelson, 86, of 201 Depot St., Ridgway, died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, after a brief stay at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
He was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Ridgway, son of the late William B. and Grace E. (Gardner) Nelson. He married Betty J. Keneske on Feb. 7, 1945; she preceded him in death on May 31, 2009.
He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of the Ridgway Area High School. He had been employed by the Elliott Company and then by Motion Control Industries for 40 years.
His is survived by two daughters, Sandra J. Russell and her husband Randy of Ridgway, and Susan M. Fernan and her husband William of Kersey; one son, James M. Nelson and his wife Susan of Ridgway; nine grandchildren, Melissa, David, Brian, James, Rebecca, Joshua, Blythe, Julie and Jeffrey; 17 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Hannah, Derek, Brianne, Aaron, Christian, Taylor, Kacey, Hayden, Justin, Alyssa, Jenna, Evan, Carter, Jesse and Braxton; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers, his twin Milton, brothers Norman, Carl, Earl, Robert, and George Nelson; and two sisters, Doris Metro and Edith Anderson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral and Committal Services for Milfred H. Nelson will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Erik Hart, pastor of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Elk Haven Nursing Home, 785 Johnsonburg Rd., St. Marys, PA 15857.
