The Retail Division of the Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their 8th annual Business Trick-or-Treat event to be held on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 3-5 p.m.
Trick-or-treating will begin at the Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce at 300 Main St. in downtown Ridgway. At the Chamber, participants will be given a list of participating businesses, a goodie bag before they begin the loop and an opportunity to enter their name into a drawing to win a Halloween party basket.
Participating businesses that are located outside of town will be given a spot downtown to participate.
"Anybody that is too far out of town for the kids to walk to, we will try to put them at a spot somewhere to sit and give out their candy," said administrative assistant Mary Kucenski.
Kucenski expects over 300 children to participate in this year's event.
"The Business Trick-or-Treat is a great way for the businesses to support the kids of the community and hand out the candy, but we also look at this as an opportunity to promote people into their businesses and let them see what they have to offer," Kucenski said. "We try to suggest to the businesses that with their piece of candy they drop a little coupon or discount certificate into the kids' bags to give to their parents to entice them to come back in and shop."
The Chamber has many other exciting fall events planned.
The Chamber kicked off the fall season with a scarecrow decorating contest. It's not too late to vote on your favorite scarecrow. Votes must be turned in to the Chamber by 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15.
The Scavenger Hunt will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, during the Flavors of Fall Festival Festival. Children will be given a list of clues to to find items hidden in local businesses. Lists will be printed in The Ridgway Record on Friday, Oct. 14 and available at the Chamber that same day. Return the complete list to the Chamber by 4 p.m. on Oct. 15, during the Flavors of Fall. One winner will be drawn for each category from all correct entries returned.
"Participation will increase your visibility during the festival." Kucenski said. "It's a great opportunity to draw in potential customers and give them a chance to look around."
The 22nd annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest will also be held on Saturday, Oct. 15 during the Flavors of Fall Festival. Prizes will be awarded on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. for pumpkins either carved or painted/embellished.
Drop off pumpkins on Friday, Oct. 14 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Chamber at 300 Main St. Pumpkins must be picked up by 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
A first and second prize will be awarded in each pumpkin category [carved or painted/embellished] in each age group, grades K-6; grades 7-12; and adults.
