John A. Yando, age 85, of Route 219, Brockport, died Sept. 14, 2011 at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 4, 1926 in Ridgway, son of Peter and Mary Stowick Yando.
He married Helen Fischer, she preceded her in death on May 2, 1988.
John was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and was a member of Holy Cross Church at Brandy Camp. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
He was retired but had been employed by several local coal companies including Doane and Tamburlin Coal Company as a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by three daughters, Carol (Rich) Rendos of Brockway, Darla (Bill) Fallon of Fayetteville, N.C., and Brenda (Tony) Greenawalt of Kersey; three sisters, Mary Hoehn, Victoria Beck and Helen Predco, all of Ridgway; and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; an infant Daughter, Shelia Marie; brothers Stanley, Joseph and Anthony Yando; an infant brother, Michael; sisters Margaret Mesher, Sophie Kempisty and Stella Yando; and an infant sister, Ann.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc., 1033 4th Ave., Brockway. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Sept. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church in Brandy Camp with Msgr. Charles Kaza presiding.
A Vigil Service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Sunday evening, Sept. 18, at the funeral home. Full Military Services will be accorded by Parson-Marnatti Post #95 of the American Legion at the cemetery.
Place of burial will be Parklawn Memorial Gardens at Ridgway
