JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg Elementary School’s newest first grade teacher is Chelsea Mulcahy.
Mulcahy is a 2005 graduate of St. Marys Area High School and upon completion of high school, Mulcahy attended Saint Bonaventure University in New York for her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Mulcahy then continued for her Masters in Childhood Literacy, also at Saint Bonaventure University.
In addition to being a teacher, Mulcahy is actively involved at the St. Marys Community Pool and an Assistant Varsity Girls Soccer Coach at St. Marys Area High School.
In regards to keeping the children interested in class, Mulcahy said “I plan on keeping the kids interested by using differentiated instruction and technology.”
She added, “Differentiated instruction and technology such as centers, whole groups, small groups and smart board- interactive websites.” Mulcahy said she intends on establishing many other different styles and techniques once the year is under way and she gets to know the needs and abilities of each of her students.
In addition, being a part of the Johnsonburg School District family is something Mulcahy is rather enthused about.
“I am excited to become a part of something new and local,” said Mulcahy.
Mulcahy has a substantial background of working in and around schools. She has taught at TASIS: The American School in England. At TASIS, Mulcahy taught Conversational English, Computer Class and Photography. Mulcahy also coached a summer soccer program during her time in England.
In addition to her time in England, Mulcahy has been a Title I Tutor at the St. Marys Area School District. She has also substituted in all grade levels and special areas in the Olean City School District.
