WETMORE TWP. – The Kane-based state police is investigating a crash that occurred on Aug. 6 at 2:20 p.m. along U.S. Hwy. 6, approximately .40 miles west of Detrick Road in Wetmore Township.
According to reports, the driver was Neil Phillips, 60, of Hartland driving a 2008 Yamaha MJR 1300A. This crash occurred as the motorcycle had been traveling eastbound along U.S. Hwy. 6 in the right eastbound lane when a wild turkey attempted to fly across the roadway traveling south from the embankment located on the north side of U.S. Hwy. 6 impacting the operator's left upper portion of his body and head.
Phillips lost control of the motorcycle crossing the westbound lane of U.S. Hwy. 6 and striking the guide rail located along the north side of the roadway. After impacting the guide rail the motorcycle fell to its side and slid eastbound on the westbound shoulder before coming to final rest.
Because of impact with the guide rail Phillips was thrown over the guide rail from the motorcycle and come to final rest down over the north embankment. The turkey was located east of the initial point of impact down over the south embankment. The motorcycle came to final rest facing north. Phillips came to final rest facing west on the northern embankment where he succumbed to the injuries he had sustained.
The motorcycle was removed from the scene by Boylan Garage.
