The First Lutheran Church at 215 Cook Ave. received a strong turnout for this year's vacation bible school.
For the second year in a row, the Bethlehem Lutheran Church teamed up with the First Lutheran Church at 331 South St. to put on a rock n' roll themed religious experience for the children designed by Christian musical group The Go Fish Guys.
Last year, Christian company Go Fish embarked on a mission to put the bible back into vacation bible school. Over 1,000 churches participated in their "Backstage With The Bible" program and this year many other churches like the Bethlehem Lutheran Church participated in this year's release of "Kickin' It Old School" for churches that are tired of doing traditional programs for their bible school lessons.
The program was held from July 10-14 at the First Lutheran Church along South Street.
"They wanted a different kind of vacation bible school-- something a little more energetic," said Julie Hart, chairperson of the Christian Education Committee for the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
According to David Peterson, chairperson of the Christian Education Committee for the First Lutheran Church, over 50 children participated in this year's program and had on average of 40 students each day for the five-day program.
The First Lutheran Church will be hosting Sunday school beginning Sept. 11 available for children in preschool through sixth grade from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. To register call the First Lutheran Church at 772-1953 or at 773-5381 or stop in.
The First Lutheran and Bethlehem Lutheran Church will also have classes available for teenagers and adults.
