The Pennsylvania Major League All-Star Tournament will have some Ridgway representation this upcoming week.
Matt Wright, a 1985 Ridgway Area High School graduate is coaching the Redland Major League All-Stars to the state tournament.
Red Land is currently undefeated in All-Star play. Red Land opened Section 4 tournament play last weekend with a 13-0 win over Bellefonte. Red Land then downed Huntingdon 7-2 and again won 12-7 over Huntingdon to finish 3-0 in the district and advance to the state tournament. Wright said Huntingdon had the bases loaded in both the first and fourth innings and did not score any runs on either occasion.
The state tournament will be held at State College's Montressor Field at S & A Park as Red Land faces Keystone at 3 p.m.
Wright said he has been coaching Little League for around a decade. This is the farthest any team has gone since he has been coaching. He spoke of the planning for this event as being "amazing."
"We're playing well and hitting strong," Wright said. "We have strong defense. We're not giving them anything. We're making them work for their runs."
The other teams left are Section 1 champions, Butler Township of District 25, West Point (Greensburg) of Section 2 and District 26, Keystone (Beech Creek) of Section 3 and District 12, Abington National of Section 5 and District 17, Council Rock Newtown of District 30 and Section 6, Carlisle Area of Section 7 and District 14 and Devon-Strafford of District 27 and Section 8.
It is a double-elimination tournament which starts Sunday and runs until Friday and potentially Saturday.
