JOHNSONBURG – The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch and the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader track and field teams won their respective Elk County Track and Field championships Thursday at the 2011 Elk County Track and Field Meet held at the Johnsonburg complex.
The Dutch won the boys’ title with 81 points. Elk Catholic was second with 77 and Johnsonburg third with 28.
The Lady Crusaders won the girls’ meet with 93 points, followed by Johnsonburg with 53.50 and St. Marys with 41.50.
The boys’ MVP Track Award was shared by Elk Catholic’s Jared Schaut and St. Marys Area’s Gideon Woelfel. Schaut won the 100 and 200 dashes and the triple jump. Woelfel won the 800, 1600 and 3200 runs. The MVP Field Award was presented to Johnsonburg’s Mike Shuey, who won the high jump and set a new record in winning the javelin. His throw was 189’11” which surpassed the old mark of 183’.
The girls’ MVP Track Award was presented to Elk County Catholic’s Abbi Petrosky, who won the100 and 300 hurdles and was a member of the winning 1600 relay. The girls’ MVP Field Award was presented to Elk Catholic’s Megan Dornisch. She won the shot put and discus. She set a new mark in the discus with a throw of 131’8”. The old mark was 126’.
In the boys’ meet, Schaut and Woelfel were triple winners.
Double winners were Shuey, ECC’s Mitchel Haberberger in the long jump and the 1600 relay, ECC’s Ryan Detsch in the 3200 and 1600 relays and SMA’s Brian Merritt in the 400 dash and 400 relay.
Single winners for the day were Johnsonburg’s Trevor Miller in the shot put, Johnsonburg’s Cody Schreiber in the pole vault, SMA’s Jimmy Werner in the discus, ECC’s Caleb Lecker, Joe Hoffman and Adam Lovenduski in the 3200 relay, SMA’s Jonathan Prechtl in the 110 hurdles, SMA’s Scott Barber, Sam Guido and Trenton Schreiber in the 400 relay and ECC’s Michael Jacob and Josh Gebauer in the 1600 relay.
Triple winners in the girls’ meet were Johnsonburg’s Rhianon Fowler and ECC’s Abbi Petrosky. Fowler won the high jump and 100 dash and was a member of the winning 400 relay team. Petrosky won the 100 and 300 hurdles and was a member of the 1600 relay team.
Double winners were ECC’s Molly Eschbach in the long and triple jumps, ECC’s Megan Dornisch in the shot put and discus, where she set a new meet record, Johnsonburg’s Kiesha Dornish in the javelin with a new meet record of 126’3” and as a member of the inning 400 relay team, ECC’s Kennedy Weisner in the 800 and 1600 runs, ECC’s Tess Onink in the 400 dash and 1600 relay, ECC’s Emily Gregory in the 200 dash and 1600 relay and SMA’s Adair Gennocro in the 3200 run with a new meet record for 10:10.65, breaking the old mark of 19:17.7, and as a member of the winning 3200 relay team.
Single winners were ECC’s Jessica Franco in the pole vault, SMA’s Megan Dornsich, Sloan Foster and Shannon Bridges in the 3200 relay, which set a new meet record of 10:10.65, beating the old mark of 10:17.7, Johnsonburg’s Emily Dubler and Marianne Abboussou in the 400 relay and Helen Danz in the 1600 relay.
All teams will return to action next week at their respective District 9 track and field championships. The Dutch will compete in the Class AAA meet at Brookville Wednesday, while the Lady Dutch, along with the Johnsonburg and Elk Catholic teams, will compete next Friday in the Class AA meet at Kane.
