Ronald R. Bowley Sr., 77, of Maple Street, Johnsonburg, died early Monday, May 2, 2011, at the home of his granddaughter, Tracy Sherry-Burrows, in St. Marys after a short illness.
He was born Feb. 13, 1934, in Tidioute, son of the late Joseph and Pearl (McManigle) Bowley.
He married Christina M. (Machcoviak) on July 17, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2000.
Bowley served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1955 during the Korean War.
He retired from the Johnsonburg Paper Mill as an electrician. He was a member of the Johnsonburg United Methodist Church, Rolfe Sportsmen's, Central Hose Company, the American Legion, and the Piedmonte Club. He enjoyed NASCAR, camping, growing and sharing tomatoes and socializing at the Central Hose Hall. He lived most of his life in Johnsonburg.
He is survived by five children, Don Bowley of Johnsonburg, Ron Bowley Jr. of Wilcox, Tom Bowley of Johnsonburg, Sandy (Mrs. Brian) Sherry of St. Marys, and Cheri Bowley of Johnsonburg; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Maxine Warmbrodt of St. Marys; and his companion and man's best friend, Buddy, whom he took everywhere.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Jack and Jim Bowley; and three sisters, Dorothy Kennedy, Helen Rothrock, and Marcella Taylor.
Funeral services for Ronald R. Bowley Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg, with Pastor Jeffrey Little officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg/Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Servicemen are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:45 a.m.
Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Cemetery in Ridgway.
Visitation will be held at the Ubel Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.
