Charles J. Marconi, 79, of 120 Hemlock Rd., St. Marys, died Monday morning, April 11, 2011, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 24, 1932, in St. Marys, son of the late Zolferino and Mary Nart Marconi.
On Nov. 5, 1955, in the St. Mary's Church, he married Norma Salter, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Public High School. He was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Co., retiring after 38 years of service, and went on to retire from Osram Sylvania in 1997 after eight years of service. He was a member of the Queen of the World Church; a veteran of the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant during the Korean War; a member of the American Legion for 56 years; and served on the Benzinger Township Park Board for 17 years. He enjoyed old cars, going to car shows, and having his morning coffee at McDonald's.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lesa Moore (Vic) of Ridgway and Linda Rose (Steve) of Hummelstown; a son, Randall Marconi of Ridgway; three grandchildren, Stephanie Rosenhoover (Tony), Emily Rose and Kevin Rose; a great-grandchild, Addison Rose Willard; two sisters, Marguerite Schaut of St. Marys and Edith Cortina (Silvio) of St. Marys; and two brothers, Alfred "Cork" Marconi (Marilys) of St. Marys and Andrew "Ike" Marconi of Philadelphia.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Mattiuz; and by four brothers, Aurelius Marconi, Victor Marconi and James and Eugene Marconi in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles J. Marconi will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Wednesday at noon with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
