John D. "Jack" Carlson, 88, of Sandersville, Ga. died Dec. 15, 2010. John was the son of the late John A. Carlson and the late Harriet M. Carlson of Ridgway. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Carlson, and a sister, Jill Fish. He was a decorated Navy Lieutenant during WWII. A graduate of the Newark College of Engineering, he was an engineer for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company. Upon retirement, Jack and his wife Alice moved from North Caldwell, N.J. to Sandersville, Ga., where they bought a farm.
He taught at the Sandersville Technical College and he was a trustee of the STC Foundation starting in 2000 and its treasurer from 2002 until his death. In recognition of their support, the new library study room will be named The Jack and Alice Carlson Study Room.
He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a former member of the Sandersville Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife, Alice S. Carlson of Sandersville, Ga.; a daughter, Beatrice "Bonnie" Robinson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, Jim Carlson of Califon, N.J. and Neil Carlson of Berkeley Heights, N.J.
May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville were in charge of the arrangements.
