James R. Penfield, age 84, of 101 North Mill Ave., Ridgway died Tuesday evening at Elk Regional Health Center. He was born June 13, 1926 in Ridgway son of the late William J. and Dorothy (Wood) Penfield. He married Donna F. Johnson on Dec. 24, 1953, she survives. He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was Protestant by Faith. He was a member of the American Legion Post 208. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of WWII. He had been employed by the Elliot Company for 14 years and by Clarion Sintered Metals for 25 years.
Surviving besides his wife are the following children: James R. Penfield Jr. of Hallton, Scott A. Penfield and his wife Sue of St. Marys, D. Craig Penfield of St. Marys, Patrick H. Penfield and his wife Marlene of Johnsonburg, Mariel F. Hyatt of Kersey, Lisa M. Luchini of Hawk Run, 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, three brothers William Penfield of St. Marys, Thomas Penfield and his wife Melinda of Woodward, Calif., Milton Penfield and his wife Velma of Rasselas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral and Committal Services for James R. Penfield will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemens Burial Detail. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Miller, Pastor of the Ridgway Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Memorials if desired can be made to the Ridgway Ambulance Corp. or to Pinecrest Manor.
