Edith M. Carlson, age 90, of 201 Montmorenci Ave., Ridgway, died Wednesday evening, January 19, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a brief illness.
She was born November 25, 1920 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Ben and Jennie (DeMucci) Marzella. She married Bernard Keys Carlson on September 6, 1947, he preceded her in death on April 21, 1981.
She had resided in Ridgway all of her life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking, cooking and caring for others. She had been employed by the Ridgway High School for 25 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary B. Mader of Ridgway; one grandson, Wayne Steele of Ridgway, four sisters, Lena Destefano of Covina, Calif., Violet Nanula and her husband Anthony of Lewiston, N.Y., Mary Jacobs and her husband William of Ridgway, Lucy Ferragine and her husband James of Johnsonburg; two brothers, Anthony Marzella of Ridgway, James Marzella and his wife Esther of Ridgway and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Denike and Pauline Gapinski, four brothers, Frankie, John, Albert and Joseph Marzella and one son-in-law, James Steele.
A Mass of Christian Burial and Committal for Edith M. Carlson will be celebrated at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Kersey on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Fr. Brian E. Vossler, Pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Leo Catholic Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
