Harry Alvin “Al” Brian Sr., 87, of 3460 Grant Rd., passed away at his residence on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010. He was born Oct. 5, 1923, in Ridgway, the son of Reed L. and Mable I. Mattren Brian. On Aug. 24, 1946, he married Jean Buehler, she survives.
Mr. Brian lived in Buffalo, N.Y., from 1946-1949, where he worked for Bethlehem Steel. He lived the rest of his life in Ridgway, where he raised his family along Grant Road. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and the American Legion. He was a leader in the Boy Scouts and the 4-H. In 1986, he retired from Windstream Telephone Co. as a Cablesplicer/Supervisor. A veteran of WWII, he had served in the US Navy as a Motor Machinist’s Mate Second Class. He was Honorably Discharged on Jan. 8, 1946. Al enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and traveling with Jean after he retired.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Harry (Marianne) Brian of Johnson City, Tenn., Jody (Linda) Brian of Ridgway; three daughters, Margaret (Ralph) Tettis of Ridgway, Elizabeth (Michael) Studery of Valencia, Heidi (Tim) Devlin of Beaver; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Jean B.) Brian of Philadelphia; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Robert Brian; four sisters; and two brothers.
Memorial services for Harry A. Brian Sr., will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements, are under the direction of the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Evangelical Covenant Church, 315 Center St., Ridgway or to the Ridgway Public Library, 329 Center St., Ridgway, PA 15853.
