John G. Mattiuz, 67, of 105 Scotland St., Dagus Mines, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 1, 2010, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 17, 1943, in Ridgway, son of the late John M. and Mary G. Zuccolotto Mattiuz.
On Nov. 30, 1963, in the Holy Cross Church in Brandy Camp, he married Mary Jean Kline, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area, attended Kersey schools and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1961. He also was a graduate of Williamsport Tech and was a tool and die maker, retiring in 2007 from Quala-Die, Inc. He was a member of the St. Boniface Church where he served as a Eucharist Minister. He was also an avid gardner and enjoyed his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Christine Mattiuz and close family friend Jamie Shriver of Northumberland; two sons, John G. Mattiuz Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann of Daguscahonda and Jeffrey M. Mattiuz and his wife, Johna of Gibsonia; seven grandchildren, Chad Brady, Jacob Brady, Derek Mattiuz, Ryan Ehrensberger, Zachary Mattiuz, Brock Mattiuz and Eden Mattiuz; and a brother, George V. Mattiuz and his wife, Patty of Kersey.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Mattiuz in infancy.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for John Mattiuz to be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Faluszczak, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Ridgway.
There will be no visitation.
