Lady Bisons hand Lady Crusaders 70-45 D9 League loss Print E-mail

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders saw their overall record slip to 15-4 with a 70-45 loss to the Clearfield Lady Bisons last night in Clearfield. The big difference in last night’s contest was the second period of play where the Lady Bisons outscored the Lady Crusaders by a 20-7 margin.
“Clearfield shot the ball well and we didn’t,” said ECCHS coach Ken Pistner about his team’s 23 percent field goal shooting.
“Clearfield also rebounded the ball well and we didn’t,” said Pistner.
“We need to play with more consistency,” added coach Pistner.
Laken Lenox led the ECC offense with 15 points on three twos, two threes and a three for four night from the foul line. Laura Straub was next with eight points.
Brooke Jordan led Clearfield with 19 points on two twos, four threes and a three for five night from the foul line. Nikki Collins added 16 points on one two, four threes and a two for two night from the foul line. Julianna Howell scored 14 points on four twos, one three and a three for four night from the foul line.
The first eight minutes of play found the Lady Bisons opening a 20-15 lead over the Lady Crusaders.
In the second period the Lady Bisons outscored Elk Catholic 20-7 to take a 40-22 halftime lead.
Clearfield put 14 points on their side of the scoreboard in the third period while Elk scored 12 as Clearfield led 54-34 with one period remaining.
In the final eight minutes of play Clearfield outscored the Lady Crusaders by a 16-11 margin to win the game 70-45.
Game notes
The Lady Crusaders are now 15-4 on the year and 5-4 in the District 9 League. They are 8-0 in the Allegheny Mountain League.
The Lady Crusaders return to action Saturday night when they play host to the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch in a D9 League encounter. Game time is 6 p.m. for junior varsity and 7:30 p.m. for varsity.
JV’s lose
The ECC junior varsity squad lost a 33-27 contest to the Clearfield team.
Clearfield took an 11-5 first period lead. They outscored ECC 7-6 in the second period for an 18-11 halftime lead.
Elk outscored the Lady Bisons 8-6 in the third period. Clearfield outscored the Lady Crusaders 9-8 in the fourth quarter to win the game 33-27.
