Ridgway girls' basketball falls to Clearfield Print E-mail

The Ridgway girls’ basketball team lost to Clearfield Monday night, 76-39.

The Lady Elkers got off to a slow start in the first quarter and trailed 17-0 after the first six minutes. Ridgway able to close out the final two minutes on a 5-4 spurt with all five points coming from Kathy Shirey. Shirey finished the game with 12 points to lead the Lady Elkers, including two three-pointers. Ridgway coach Sharon Leitzel said Shirey had a strong performance for the Lady Elkers.
“Kathy Shirey had a good game,” Leitzel said. “She played well.”
Clearfield led 21-5 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Clearfield outscored Ridgway 17-6 in the first 3:30 to take a 38-11 lead. The Lady Bison led at the half by 29, 42-13. Emily Mitchell had six points at the half for the Lady Elkers.
Ridgway battled back in the third quarter and started to put some solid offense together. The Lady Elkers had their strongest offensive output during the third quarter and outscored the Lady Bison 15-11 in the third quarter. Ridgway continued their offensive flow in the fourth quarter but could not keep up with the Lady Bison as Clearfield outscored Ridgway throughout much of the fourth quarter and finished with a 23-11 advantage to finish with the 76-39 victory.
Mitchell had 11 points for Ridgway as the Lady Elkers had seven players score. Mitchell also poured in a late three-pointer. Kirstie Shirey had six points. Jacki Davison and Lacey Gosnell each had four points while Bekka Leitzel had two. Clearfield had 11 players score led by Julianna Howell with 23 points, including three three-pointers. Clearfield hit seven three-pointers as a team. Brooke Jordan had 15 points for the Lady Bison and Nikki Collins had eight points.
Ridgway will next play at Sheffield Thursday night in a rescheduled game.
In JV action, Ridgway lost 41-32 to Clearfield.
