The Johnsonburg Community Center now offers a Zumba Fitness class on Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The class is taught by licensed Zumba instructor Lacy Nicklas. Nicklas has been a licensed instructor since January 2011. When she moved back to the area to be with her husband, Nicklas decided she wanted to offer Zumba which she was so passionate about.
“I lived in Allentown before where I took Zumba,” Nicklas said. “When I moved here there weren’t any classes, and I figured if I was going to move somewhere with no classes I needed to start them.”
Nicklas began teaching in St. Marys where she continues to teach in addition to Johnsonburg. Her Zumba class is at Ferragines on Monday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. Student request is the reason why Zumba is now available in Johnsonburg.
“I had a couple of students recommend the community center,” Nicklas said. “I called and got it set up and here we are.”
Zumba is a fitness program with the fundamentals based in international rhythm. It has a lot of aspects of dance and fitness incorporated.
“I structure the class to be more like a party than a fitness class,” Nicklas said. “I do a lot of international rhythm like raggaeton which is a form of hip-hop and belly dance.”
