Yuriko M. Shrefler

Yuriko M. Shrefler, age 47, of 578 Rock St., died Saturday afternoon, March 2, 2013, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 8, 1965 in Tokyo, Japan, daughter of Mitsunobu and Fumiko (Tsutsumi) Matsuda. She married Mike Shrefler on Aug. 12, 1995, he survives. She had resided in Ridgway for the last 23 years.
Yuriko loved flowers, gardening, reading, the arts, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Ridgway Women's Volleyball League. She had been employed by the Ridgway Elementary School as an aide for several years and had been self-employed for the last five years.
Surviving besides her husband are the following: three children, Kimiko Kasaback of Pittsburgh, Akila Shrefler of Ridgway, Sara Shrefler of Harrisburg; her parents, Mitsunobu and Fumiko (Tsutsumi) Matsuda of Tokyo, Japan; one brother, Akira Matsuda of Tokyo, Japan; one sister, Sumiko Ito of Tokyo, Japan; also surviving is her American family, including her mother-in-law, Pricilla Shrefler, Gary (Carol) Shrefler, Larry (Marcheta) Shrefler, Jerry (Sheri) Shrefler, Rebecca (Bob) Larkin, Frank (Sheila) Shrefler, and Lori (Kevin) Oknefski. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents; her father-in-law, Franklin Shrefler; and a sister-in-law, Tina Meals.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Yuriko M. Shrefler on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Ridgway American Legion at 1 p.m.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Community Nurses, Inc. Hospice Program. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.
