Will J. Duffield, age 37, of 307 Center St., Ridgway, died Monday morning in Jefferson County from injuries he received in an automobile accident.
He was born Feb. 2, 1976 in Naperville, Ill., son of Rev. Craig W. and Jean E. (McEvers) Duffield. He resided in Ridgway for the last 13 years and was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. He graduated from Malta High School in Malta, Ill., and had attended Valparaiso University in Indiana and Covenant Bible College.
He served in the U.S. Marines and is a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan where he received the Purple Heart, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Certificate of Commendation, Certificate of Appreciation, Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Expert Badge.
He was serving as a SGT. in the Pennsylvania National Guard Charlie Company 1st Battalion, 112th Infantry Division based in Lewis Run, Pa. He had been employed by the Jefferson County EMS as an EMT for the last six years.
Will is survived by his parents, Rev. Craig W. Duffield and Jean E. Duffield of Ridgway and the following brothers and sisters: Matthew E. Duffield of Hopkins, Mn., Elaine K. Duffield, Katrina S. Duffield, Sophia J. Duffield, Anthony D. Duffield, Patrick J. Duffield, and Alexandra M. Hill, all of Ridgway; three nieces Lidia, Anna and Riley Duffield of Ridgway; his maternal grandmother, Elise K. McEvers of Olympia, Wash., and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Buddy R. McEvers, his paternal grandparents Dale J. and Beth Duffield, and one uncle Donald Duffield in infancy.
A memorial service for Will J. Duffield will be held at the Evangelical Covenant Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with military honors accorded by the Pennsylvania National Guard Charlie Company 1st Battalion, 112th Infantry Division. Officiating will be Rev. Garth McGrath, Conference Superintendent of the Great Lakes of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Burial will be in Malta Cemetery in Malta, Ill.
The family will be greeting friends Friday evening at the Evangelical Covenant Church from 4-8 p.m.
