MT. JEWETT – The number of bears harvested on the opening day of the state's four-day bear season this year and processed at the Pennsylvania Game Commission's bear check station in Mt. Jewett was considerably lower this year compared to 2011. A total of 45 bears were brought to the check station throughout the day on Saturday, whereas 122 were processed at the site on the opening day of the season last year.
