Photo by Kristal Oknefski The Ridgway-based State Police responded to the scene of a crash which occurred on Saturday, Oct. 27 at approximately 1:33 p.m. along U.S. Route 219. According to police, a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am, operated by Clarence J. Cunningham, 51, of Byrnedale, was negotiating a left-hand curve in the roadway when he lost control of the vehicle while exiting the curve. The vehicle crossed the southbound lane and traveled down an embankment on the west side of the roadway where it struck shrubbery and rolled onto its right side. The determined cause of this crash was that the operator of the vehicle failed to maintain his vehicle in its lane of travel while exiting a curve in the roadway. Cunningham was cited for driving within a single lane. Cunningham, who was wearing a seatbelt, received minor injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, Hope Wonderly, 36, of Byrnedale, received unknown injuries and was transported to Altoona Hospital.
