On June 8, the local International Defensive Pistol Association held a match at the outdoor shooting bays of the Ridgway Rifle Club. Paul Day shooting his Performance Center Smith and Wesson 1911 won first place in the CDP division, that being the .45 caliber competition. Jaron Licatovich of Brockway won the SSP division shooting his 9 mm semiautomatic. The match featured four stages, the first of which was dropping out of a “driver's position” onto the ground and using the open truck door for cover. Other stages involved the notorious “dog attack” with a group of marauding canines and an innocent person. On the dog stage, the handgunners had to dispatch the animals in the tactical order of distance from the innocent. The final stages involved accuracy and speed on knock-down steel targets. Each competitor was individually and safely taken through the scenarios by a qualified Range Officer and Timer. The IDPA organization stresses safety foremost. Lunch was served at noon, and the large group of handgunners from many area towns thoroughly enjoyed the day of recreation and defensive practice. For more information about the IDPA shooting matches, contact Dave Woods at 814-772-1125 for details and directions. The local organization hosts competitive shoots the second Saturday of each month. |
