Students from the Ridgway Area High School performed "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" yesterday morning for youngsters from the local elementary school as a tuneup for their Thursday, Friday and Saturday night performances.
As the musical was open to any students grades nine from 12, Theresa Morley-Palmer said 26 students are performing the three-night affair.
"I look at who the seniors are and then try to pick a certain musical that fits them," Palmer said yesterday morning. "This year, I only had two seniors so I needed something with one big guy and one big girl."
Senior Andrew Yetzer stars as Adam while fellow senior Shelby Davison portrays Milly.
"It is about seven brothers who live in a house 12 miles from town and they told the oldest that he needs to get a wife because they need a woman around the house to help with cooking and cleaning, things like that," Palmer said. "So Adam goes to town and finds the wife, and when she gets to the cabin, she finds out he has six brothers who live with him as he didn't mention that.
"So her goal is to get them all married and out with families of their own."
The students have been working on the musical for the eight weeks now while enduring a Monday through Thursday schedule, practicing for two hours each day.
The musical is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday night starting at 7 p.m. at Ridgway Area High School.
As it is Palmer's fourth year, she also has directed students in "Annie Get Your Gun," "Anything Goes," and "The Wizard of Oz."
