Sophie A. Manno, 84, of 325 Willow Street, Johnsonburg, died on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys following a short illness.
She was born on May 11, 1925, in Johnsonburg, daughter of Joseph and Eva Pawlowicz Czekai.
She married Michael W. “Mike” Manno, Jr. in December of 1957 in St. Joseph Church in Mt. Jewett, who survives.
She resided in Johnsonburg all her life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1943. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and the Johnsonburg Senior Center and was an avid bingo player. She was employed by Sylvania Corp. in Emporium for 38 years, retiring in 1981.
In addition to her husband, she is also survived by two brothers, John Czekai and his wife, Barbara of Johnsonburg and E. Robert “Bobby” Czekai and his wife, Lois of Rochester, N.Y., and a sister, Genevieve Villella of Emporium.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Adolph, Walter and Stanley Czekai and a sister, Julia McGonigal.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sophie Manno will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg on Wednesday at 1 p.m., with Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut Street, Johnsonburg on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. |
