Elkers defeat Redbank Valley in home finale |

Ridgway wrestling won its home dual meet finale with a 34-22 victory over Redbank Valley last night at Ridgway Area High School.
The dual meet started at 125 pounds as Tyler McCauley won a 2-1 decision over Kyle Caggiano of Ridgway. Caggiano escaped with 43 seconds left in the second period to take a 1-0 lead. McCauley scored a reversal with 1:30 left in the third period for the deciding points.
Trevor McCauley then took a 13-4 major decision at 130 over Dakota Dahler of Ridgway to put Redbank Valley up 7-0.
Evan Shirey then won an 8-4 decision over Ridgway's Jeff Slattery at 135 and Brandon Bailey won a 6-4 decision over Steve Mitchell in the 140-pound bout to put the Bulldogs up in the 13-0 team score.
Nate Dornisch of Ridgway won a 9-0 major decision over Nolan Cypher at 145. D.J. Skraba followed with an 8-0 major decision over Justin Radaker of Redbank Valley in the 152-pound bout.
There was no match at 160. Ridgway coach Gary Gerber said the Elkers were short-handed with Garet Pisani, Seth Stahl and Slade Horner out of the lineup.
"When you have three good, quality kids like that out, it affects your team," Gerber said.
Sam Skraba wrestled at 171 against Corey Cyphert, pinning the Redbank Valley wrestler in 1:56 to put the Elkers ahead, 14-13 in the team score. Both D.J. and Sam along with the Elkers team watched as Alex Skraba, D.J. and Sam's grandfather, was inducted into the Ridgway Wrestling Hall of Fame.
"It was special for them," Gerber said. "I think they were extra motivated and you could tell by the way they wrestled."
Zack Zelcs then followed at 189 with a 5-3 decision over Shiloh Buchleitner. After a scoreless first period, Zelcs took the lead with an escape early in the second period.
A penalty point tied the bout, then Zelcs scored a takedown to take a 3-1 lead. Buchleitner escaped, but another Zelcs takedown sealed the bout. Buchleitner escaped to finish the scoring as Zelcs took the 5-3 decision.
Braden Bowser won a 7-5 decision over Jesse Sheasley of Ridgway in the 215-pound bout. Joe Chittester at 285 and Ricky Jay Javier at 103 each received forfeit wins.
Corey Bush won a 20-4 technical fall over Nick Schrecengost of Redbank Valley in a time of 5:34 at the 112-pound bout.
Garret Hildebrand won via pinfall over Trevor Delhunty at 2:36 to close out the night.
Ridgway wrestles at Clearfield tonight.
