By Joseph Bell Record Staff Writer More than one council member expressed concern over certain parking situations around the borough of Ridgway which may prevent emergency vehicles from operating in a safe manner. "My concern is that there are several places around town where people are parking close to intersections," councilman John Casolo said during a meeting Monday night. "If an emergency vehicle had to go through that, it's basically almost impossible to make the turn." According to Ridgway mayor James Donald Martin, a sign prohibiting parking at the locations in question would be the only effective way to remedy the issue. "With a sign, they can enforce it," Martin said. "Otherwise, you can just ask them not to park there. "Then someone else pulls in." According to councilman Frank Quattrone, one location is the corner of Grant Street and Sheridan Avenue. "You're not gonna turn there," Quattrone said. "A car can turn there but that's it." The issue was not resolved at the meeting as further investigation and discussion is needed. "We can talk to people that park there," Martin said. "But it doesn't mean that someone else down the street or wherever won't park there." |
