On Tuesday evening Lee Greenwood is set to take the stage at Ridgway High School at 8 p.m. as part of a concert sponsored by The Hound 97.5. The veteran singer will showcase his musical talents as he entertains the audience with a myriad of musical selections. Known for his inspiring powerful ballad “God Bless the USA” the song has been voted the most recognizable patriotic song in America but is one of only many hits which have propelled his career. Captivating audiences for decades Greenwood has won numerous accolades including two Male Vocalist of the Year awards from the Country Music Association and the CMA Song of the Year honor in 1985 for “God Bless the USA.” Among his most notable hits are “Ring on Her Finger,” “Time on Her Hands,” “It Turns Me Inside Out,” “Somebody’s Gonna Love You,” “I Don’t Mind the Thorns” and “Dixie Road.” Greenwood was raised on a farm in Sacramento, Calif. where he developed his musical skills playing the saxophone at age seven and nearly all instruments in his school’s orchestra by age 14. He eventually began recording with Paramount Records in Los Angeles and moved to MCA Records in Nashville. Greenwood honed his stage skills by performing in Las Vegas for several years. Following his marriage to his wife, Kim, and the birth of their sons, Dalton and Parker, Greenwood opened the Lee Greenwood Theatre in Sevierville, Tenn., a booming tourist town in the Smoky Mountains. This venture allowed the musician to spend more time at home with his family. Greenwood has a newly released Christmas CD “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and is currently working on a new country album. |
