By Joseph Bell Staff Writer SPRING CREEK TWP. – Sergeant Steve Daniel of the State Police at Ridgway attended last night’s supervisors’ meeting in Spring Creek Township to address concerns regarding any crime trends in the area. “I just wanted to come up here and see how things are going in the township,” Daniel said. “We’ve been looking to see if there are any trends up here and really, there aren’t any, other than some criminal mischiefs and the usual crash, but nothing really of note to get our concerns really worked up. “I’m just trying to get some feedback and some insight from township officials.” According to chairman Richard Wittman, one unfortunate concern has been vandalism at the cemetery in Hallton. “I know they’ve already got two individuals down there but the place seems to take an awful beating since it’s out of the way and such,” Wittman said. “Nobody has control over that down there, the church in Hallton is in the early stages of trying to take it over so that they can do repairs and stuff like that there. “I know there’s been a lot of damage down there and it’s really unfair to the individuals that are there. I imagine it’s because it’s out of the way and it’s Friday and Saturday night party nights down that way, and that’s what happens to it.” The supervisors also mentioned the theft and destruction of road signs, some riddled with bullets. “It’s a prime example of what you may think is minor and simpleand, in the big scheme of things, it really is,” Daniel said. “But if we don’t know of it, then we can’t address this issue or help. So if you do have something, it needs to be reported and at least then we’ll be aware that there’s something going on here with stealing signs. “We might have something going on in Mill Creek and we can tie it in with something that’s going on over here. Without knowing that it’s happening here, then we can’t really tell or help. Again, if you have something going on, I really want to stress that.” Wittman also said he has been in contact with Allegheny National Forest officials regarding a restroom facility located along Spring Creek Road. “I had a conversation a few weeks back with Linda White and I understand that the restroom facility at the Little Drummer (Historical Pathway) trail is being used for some ‘stuff,’” Wittman said. “There’s a restroom there and I understand that one of (ANF’s) cleaning people has found ‘stuff’ that they’re ‘cooking’ in there. “I don’t know how much this has been going on or how recent.” |
