31 elk harvest through first three days of Elk Hunt |

Reynoldsville resident harvests 6x6 bull; bow hunter successful, bags 6x5 bull.
KARTHAUS TWP. – Eleven elk were harvested on the third day of the 2009 Elk Hunt with Reynoldsville resident Andrew B. Emery harvesting a 6x6 bull at 8:45 a.m. yesterday morning. Emery’s elk carried a weight of 497 pounds. A total of 31 elk have been harvested through the first three day’s of the annual hunt. There are 28 hunters that have yet to harvest an elk. Nineteen were taken through the first two days, with the action slowing down for the second day. Richard Rodney of Shickshinny bagged an elk in Grove Twp. in Cameron County using a bow. Rodney’s elk was a 6x5 bull that weighed in at 505 pounds. Larry L. Carnahan of Warfordsburg downed a cow with a muzzleloader in Benezette Twp. in Elk County. Carnahan’s elk weighed 324 pounds. Kenneth E. Hunter of Muncy harvested an 8x8 bull that weighed 604 pounds. Hunter was hunting in Jay Twp. Keith D. Leydig harvested a 7x6 bull in Goshen Twp. in Clearfield County. The elk weighed 463 pounds. Ronald W. Werkheiser of Hellertown harvested a 7x7 bull in Karthaus in Clearfield County. The bull weighed 617 pounds. The Elk Hunt runs through Saturday. The check-in station is located in Karthaus Twp. in the Quehanna Wild Area at the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Food & Cover crew headquarters and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. |
