By Becky Polaski Staff Writer The Elk County Solid Waste Authority held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the Elk County Courthouse Annex. During the meeting Elk County Recycling/Solid Waste Authority Coordinator Bekki Titchner informed Authority members that there have not been any odor issues at Veolia ES Greentree Landfill over the course of the past month. Titchner explained that she was at the landfill a few weeks ago for a Leadership Elk County class and the participants were given a tour of the facility prior to her section of the program. “Bill and Tony did a really nice job in terms of explaining how the landfill is put together and so on and so forth,” Titchner said. “They also did a tour of the gas plant and everything. They seem to have that whole gas issue under control. I think they’re just trying to get as much out and into the pipeline as possible.” Other topics discussed at the meeting included the following: - Titchner reported on the most recent plastics and electronics collection. - Titchner provided an update on the County’s plan to begin collecting oil-based paint. - Titchner discussed an upcoming cleanup in Jay Township. - Authority members were informed about illegally dumped electronics that were found in Game Lands 25. - Authority members discussed Fox Township’s plans to take over their drop-off program next year. - Titchner updated Authority members on the return rate on the 149 Fund. - Authority members held a brief executive session regarding a legal issue. |
