The Ridgway cross country team hosted Bradford, St. Marys and Brockway in action Tuesday at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
On a wet, windy day, the teams competed in crisp, blustery conditions. In the boys varsity race, Kyle Caggiano of Ridgway finished with a time of 19:54 to finish 15th. Max Palmer had a time of 23:00 for the Elkers. The overall winner was Mike White of Bradford with a time of 17:13. Hannah Lampman placed ninth with a time of 22:54 for ninth. Teammate Alexis Konen was 10th with a time of 23:21. Abbie Lampman was 15th with a time of 23:58. "We're doing pretty good at first," Ridgway coach Marlin Konen said. "We've kind of hit a plateau right now and hoping to get started back down in the next couple of weeks towards districts." In the girls varsity race, Adair Gennocoro of St. Marys was the overall winner with a time of 20:48. Teammate Kelsey Wendel was third with a time of 21:33. Cassie Wonderling was 17th with a time of 27:50. In the girls junior high race, Rachel Guyer of Ridgway was the winner with a time of 12:07, a win by 36 seconds over teammate Amanda Shilk. For St. Marys in the boys varsity race, Cody Foster placed fourth for a time of 17:20, the best for the Dutch. Justin Huey had a time of 17:49 for fifth. Ridgway hosts the Ridgway Invitational on October 10 and the District 9 cross country meet on October 24. "They're all running pretty well, but we need to improve before districts," coach Konen said. "Most of them have to get down another minute or two to have a chance to make it to states. I think they're capable of it, it just hasn't happened yet. Coach Konen said it was a solid meet for all of the competitors involved even with the wet and windy conditions. "We had a big meet today with a lot of kids," coach Konen said. "Bradford and St. Marys both have big squads and Brockway has a pretty nice-size squad. It was kind of an unpleasant day to start but it didn't end up real bad." |
