WILCOX – Jones Twp. Supervisors have officially closed the Horner Road Bridge. As discussed at last week’s meeting of the supervisors, “Bridge Closed Ahead: signs have been erected at both ends of Horner Road. Barriers have arrived and will be put in place as soon as possible to restrict vehicles from traveling the one-lane bridge at the north end of Wilcox. According to the township’s Web site, the bridge was inspected on Sept. 11 by the township engineer. During that inspection, it was determined there was “advanced section loss near the bearing of Beam 8.” The township engineer recommended the bridge be closed to traffic, citing “the bridge cannot support the minimum 3 tons needed to keep the bridge open to traffic,” according to the Web site. The township supervisors discussed the replacement of the bridge at last week’s meeting, but tabled the issue as Chairman Jim Elinski, who cited the bridge would be closed due to unsafe measures. The plans to replace the bridge included pre-cast concrete beams and the bridge will be upgraded to a width of 18-feet. |
