JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area High School started the 2009-10 school year with a new addition to its faculty. Stephanie Freeman is the new business teacher at the school.
Freeman was born and raised in Kane and graduated from Kane Area High School. She then enlisted in the Navy and had plans of being a career servicewoman. She obtained her college degree from the Navy, and later on earned her teaching certification to teach business composition and information technology from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Before landing her new position, Freeman was a substitute teacher in the Bradford Area School District. When asked about how business courses taken in high school will help these students in college, Ms. Freeman said that, “Computer applications are such a major part of any college program. Every college professor will use Word at some point. I think knowing Word and other computer applications will also enhance students’ daily lives.”
As far as her first full weeks of teaching, Freeman said “It’s about what I thought it would be because of my substitute teaching experiences. I also think that being in the military helped me with my classroom management skills. I like it here. The people are really nice. I really feel welcomed.”
Long ago are the days of heavyweight typewriters, shorthand and transcription machines and Johnsonburg offers its students a wide array of business classes to take that will help them in college, as well as in their daily lives.
