Trinity United Methodist Church in Ridgway hosted a community picnic Sunday afternoon in front of the church. The three-hour late-afternoon picnic offered a free meal to those in attendance as they were served by members of the congregation. "It's a great outreach to the community and a time to just invite anyone to come in and get a free meal and enjoy some fellowship here," the Rev. David C. Roddy said. "The praise band played. I think the turnout has been pretty good, in past years, we've served 300-350 people. I don't know what the numbers are today but there's been a large number of people here which is good." This is the third year for the picnic and the idea was brought to him by another church. "We took the idea from the St. Marys United Methodist Church," Roddy said. "When somebody else has a good idea and they're willing to share it, I'm willing to listen." Roddy said he felt the event this year was a success. "It's been a really nice time, we get a lot of people to come down and it's nice for the borough to block off the street and enjoy the time out together," Roddy said. "The Lord's been good to keep the rain away, even though we had a little rain to begin with, that didn't change anything. We're glad to be out here. It's just a wonderful community. We're just reaching out and inviting everyone in." |
