The fourth annual Letters from Home Dice Run will be held this Sunday starting at the Old Sacred Heart School on Center Street in St. Marys.
By Nicole Guth Special to The Ridgway Record The fourth annual Letters from Home Dice Run will be held this Sunday starting at the Old Sacred Heart School on Center Street in St. Marys. There is a fee to participate in the dice run, which includes lunch. The proceeds go to shipping letters and packages to the members of the Armed Services. Registration is from 10 am. until noon. The 100-mile dice run allows any motorized vehicle and will go on rain or shine. The stops along the route include the Ridgway Legion, the Farmers Inn Restaurant in Sigel, the Trails End Restaurant in Cooksburg and the Highland Hotel in Highland. Upon returning to Sacred Heart, prizes will be given for high and low rolls. There will also be a raffle to win either a 2010 XL 1200C Harley Davidson or $10,000 cash. There will be 130 door prizes to win including gift certificates, t-shirts and hats. Extra door prize tickets will be given if a rider brings along a treat bag for the soldiers which can range from a granola bar to a deck of cards to a Nerf football, according to Christine Jovenitti, the director of LFH. A Chinese auction boasts prizes such as Pirate or Steelers tickets, a home theater system, and a BBQ package. “Every year [the dice run has] grown,” Carrie Shutters, a LFH volunteer, said. “The first year it started out with 80 riders and last year we had 280 riders. We hope this year is even bigger and better.” The next LFH packages will be shipped out in November and will contain unbreakable Christmas ornaments, puzzle books, sample size shampoos, drink mixes, candy, beef jerky and more. For more information on the dice run or Letters from Home, call Carrie at 787-4653. |
