JOHNSONBURG - The St. Marys 9- and 10-year old all-stars were a 13-0 winner over Johnsonburg last night in four inning at Knothole Recreational Park.

After a scoreless first inning, St. Marys took the lead in the second inning. Mike Beimel led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a groundout. Eric Gerber followed with a single to plate Beimel and give St. Marys a 1-0 lead.
St. Marys kept up the pressure in the second inning as Dan Stauffer singled and D.J. Mertz walked. Pat Schlimm grounded into a fielder's choice which scored Gerber and originally moved Stauffer to third. The throw to the pitcher squirted away and Stauffer raced home to give St. Marys a 3-0 lead.
After a lengthy rain delay in the home half of the second, St. Marys put the game out of reach in the third. Jeff Wehler reached base and scored on a double from Mike Beimel. Gabe Kraus reached on a Johnsonburg error and Stauffer capitalized on the defensive mistake with a two-run double to score Kraus and Beimel and give St. Marys a 6-0 lead.
Another single from Cameron Winters of St. Marys drove home Stauffer and Winters would score on a single from Brad Wurm to put St. Marys ahead by an 8-0 margin.
Brad Dippold doubled home Wurm for St. Marys' ninth run. Three consecutive walks would bring home Dippold for a 10-0 lead for the visitors.
St. Marys used patience in the fourth inning to extend the lead further. Stauffer, Mertz and Schlimm walked to load the bases. Dippold walked to score Stauffer. Franky Singer then walked to score Mertz. Wehler hit into a fielder's choice which scored Schlimm.
Johnsonburg was limited to just two hits, one each from Brady Dauber and Joe Elinski. Jacob Zimmerman and Ben Freeburg each reached base by being hit with a pitch and Nate DaCanal, Trevor Zimmerman, Freeburg and Ryan Kilhoffer walked. Kilhoffer walked twice.
St. Marys will advance and play Fox Township at 6 p.m. at a site to be determined.
