Craig Kasmierski runs back to first base in Ridgway's 12-2 win. By Greg Reedy Sports Editor
A seven-run second inning was paramount in a 12-2 victory for Ridgway over Bradford last night at the Ridgway Little League fields.
"That's huge," Ridgway coach Craig Kasmierski said. "You get that big inning and get up on them. We got them down a little bit." After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Ridgway's offense exploded in the second. Justin Kasmierski led off the inning with a walk and then stole second. After two straight outs, Andy Breier and Max Cowan walked and Kasmierski scored on a wild pitch for Ridgway's second run. Drew Baumgratz walked to load the bases and Neil MacDonald cleared the bases with a three-run triple to score Breier, Cowan and Baumgratz and put Ridgway up 5-0. MacDonald was 3-for-4 with five RBI. Ben Ames singled to score MacDonald to add another run for Ridgway. Josh Raubenstrauch followed with a single. Kasmierski came up for the second time in the inning and reached on a throwing error which allowed both Ames and Josh Raubenstrauch to score and put Ridgway up 8-0. Raubenstrauch was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. He also was the starting pitcher for Ridgway, tossing 4 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out five. "Josh pitched a good game, he held them in check," coach Kasmierski said. "We got almost five innings out of him and that was the difference in the ballgame, our pitching." Coach Kasmierski said he was impressed with Raubenstrauch keeping the walks out of play. He said that was a key in a quick fourth inning for the Ridgway pitcher. "He kept the walks down and we made a couple nice plays at first base in the fourth inning," coach Kasmierski said. "We had three putouts at first base and Josh probably threw a total of eight pitches. It really carried us through. Everybody's ready to pitch Thursday except for Josh." A rain delay of approximately 20 minutes interrupted play in the third inning. When play resumed, MacDonald roped a two-run single to score Luke Guyer and Joe Kucenski to put Ridgway ahead 10-0. Ben Eckstrom scored the lone run for Bradford in the fourth inning to cut the margin to nine. Ridgway would add a pair of runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead. Raubenstrauch doubled home Baumgratz to make the score 11-1 and Raubenstrauch would score on a single by Turner Amacher. Alex Renfritt would score Bradford's second run in the bottom of the sixth. Ridgway will play Thursday at a site to be determined against an opponent to be determined. "We're just going to enjoy this one and then we'll worry about the next one," coach Kasmierski said. "We'll find out our opponent and see where we're going to go."
