CLARION - The District 9 wrestling championships got underway Friday at Clarion University. 

The wrestlers advanced to the semifinals and the third round of the consolation bracket which will get underway today at 10 a.m. with the Class AAA competition with Class AA to follow at 10:30 a.m. 

At 103, Corey Bush of Ridgway advanced to the semifinals with a pin in 2:30 over Travis Haupt of Oswayo Valley. Johnsonburg's Cody Schreiber was eliminated after losing via pinfall to Greg Koptchak of Curwensville at 4:57 in the consolation round. 

Jesse Wolfe of Johnsonburg advanced to the semifinals with a 15-0 technical fall over Will Hulings of Kane at 1:45 in 112. Ridgway's Kyle Caggiano is also in the semifinals after a 4-1 decision over Ryan Kio of Port Allegany in the second round.

Slade Horner of Ridgway is in the semis at 119 after a 6-0 decision over Brandon Goodreau of Port Allegany in the second round. Quinton O'Rourke also is in the semis with a 2-1 decision over No. 3 seed Ian Grecco of Brockway. 

Jeff Slattery of Ridgway is in the semifinals after a 3-0 decision over Ron Clark of Brookville at 125. Max Zimmerman is also in the semifinals with an 8-4 decision over Tyler Peters of Curwensville. 

Garet Pisani advanced to the semifinals for Ridgway at 130 with a pin over Kenny Gadley of Johnsonburg at 1:17 in the second round. Gadley was eliminated, losing 6-1 to Dan Harris of Oswayo Valley in the consolation round. 

Steve Mitchell of Ridgway and Zac Wolfe of Johnsonburg both went 0-2 on Friday and lost in the consolation rounds at 135. 

Preston Mahoney of Johnsonburg is in the semifinals at 140 with a pinfall over Brad Goodreau of Port Allegany at 3:46. 

Nate Dornisch will continue in the consolation round at 145. After a pin over Brenden Beyer of Brookville in the preliminary round, Dornisch himself was pinned by Jeff Thomas of Curwensville in the second round. Dornisch won in the second round of the consolation bracket with a 5-3 decision over Brett Ferringer of Cranberry. Jon DeCecchis lost his opening bout but recovered to win in the first round of the consolation bracket, a 9-6 win over Beyer. DeCecchis was eliminated from that bracket by Caleb Spring of Coudersport. Spring pinned DeCecchis at 2:45.

Josh Woodford of Johnsonburg advanced to the semifinals at 152 by pinning Benn Baxter of Port Allegany at 1:58. Woodford meets Sam Skraba, who advanced with a 13-5 major decision over Brandon Ferringer. 

Zack Zelcs of Ridgway is in the semifinals after a 16-0 technical fall over Justin Smith of Curwensville. Michael Paladino of Johnsonburg is still alive in the consolation bracket as he pinned Cody Freer of Smethport in the second round of that bracket. 

Shane Munson was pinned in his opening bout by Jacob Cieleski of Brookville in the prelims at 171. Munson then won a 4-3 decision over Bryce Norton of Oswayo Valley in the first round of the consolation round, then lost 7-3 to Stephen Terwilliger of Brockway. 

Cody Sheasley of Ridgway won his opening bout 4-0 over Joe Zacheral of Cranberry, but then lost to Dylan Major as he was pinned in 45 seconds. Sheasley recovered and pinned Matt Schultz of Curwensvile in 35 seconds to advance in the consolation bracket. 

Jake Thompson of Ridgway is in the semifinals with two victories on the day, including a prelim win by fall in 12 seconds over Luke Geer of Brookville. Thompson then pinned Damon Brodhun of Port Allegany in the quarterfinal. Cory Garvey went 0-2 for the Rams at 215. 

Joe Chittester advanced to the semifinals with a pin over Lee Russell of Cranberry at 285. Chad Hefright of Johnsonburg went 0-2 for the Rams. 

Action continues throughout today at Clarion University with the finals slated for 6:30.
