A 16-0 second quarter run broke the game open for the Wolves as Kane defeated Ridgway 69-45 Wednesday night at Ridgway High School.

Kane got off to a quick start and had an 8-0 lead after the first three minutes. Ridgway was able to steady the ship after the early spurt from the Wolves and cut into the margin by one for the remaining of the quarter, trailing 15-8.

Ridgway had cut the deficit to 18-13 one minute into the second quarter, but 16 unanswered points by the Wolves blew the game open and put the Wolves up by 21. Shane Lindgren had two consecutive 2-point field goals for the Elkers to make the score 34-17. Kane added a bucket late and led 36-17 at halftime.

"We stemmed the tide for a minute or two, but they're just so big, they're athletic, they're just like Johnsonburg, they've got penetrators, they've got shooters and they've got big guys," Ridgway coach Anthony Allegretto said. "We can't match up to their big guys."

Allegretto said a key to the Kane run was their outside shooting.

"They started hitting some 3s, from some guys who we didn't expect to hit threes,"  Allegretto said. "We were helping on other people and then some other guys hit some threes.

It was an evenly played third quarter, capped by a 3-pointer from about 25 feet from Joe Renaud to end the period. Kane outscored the Elkers 16-14.

The teams were fairly even into the fourth quarter as well. Kane outscored the Elkers 17-14 and the game was capped by a Kevin Marnatti 3-pointer that he banked in.

Lindgren, Eric Matheson and Joe Renaud each had eight points to lead the Elkers as 10 different players got into the scorebook.

The Wolves were led by Bert Leonard, Cory Waigand and Dave Bucheit with 14 points apiece.
