By Joseph Bell Record Staff Writer The Elk County Commissioners opened two bids yesterday morning for anti-skid and snowplowing of the Elk County Emergency Management Center. “We received two bids,” Chief Clerk Peggy Aharrah said. “The first one is from Krug Contracting from Kersey.” According to chairperson June H. Sorg, anti-skid will be $100 each time. “Plowing will be $50 per two inches of snow,” Sorg said. “Truck charges will be $65.” The other bid was from Mike Beaver Trucking. “For 2008 through 2011, snow plowing and anti-skid each time is $49.75,” Sorg said. “Plowing and anti-skid will be completed by the end of each shift change and plowing will be done by 6 a.m., 2 p.m., and 10 p.m. if it is needed.” Elk County Commissioner Ronald T. Beimel moved to accept Mike Beaver Trucking’s bid. In other business, the commissioners approved the 2009 calendar for holidays and meeting dates for Elk County Commissioners’ meetings, Salary Board meetings, Prison Board meetings and the annual Retirement Board meeting, which is scheduled for Jan 5, 2009. The county officials also approved a contract for Children & Youth Services from the Summit Academy based in Herman. The commissioners also discussed county solicitor Tom Wagner’s soliciting a TAN for 2009. “This directs our solicitor to solicit a TAN for the year 2009 in the amount of $950,000,” Sorg said. “I’ll be glad to do that,” Wagner said. “You can’t take any money until January. Technically, you could take money before January, but it would have to be paid back with 2009 revenue.” Officials also discussed the current Personnel Policy Manual which, according to Sorg, is in need of further extensive review. “This would allow more time for review,” Sorg said. “We have, throughout the year, changes come about, and we’d like to keep what we have now until we have the opportunity to review it thoroughly. It’s very thorough now but I’m sure there may be something that we may have forgot.” The manual will be extended to Dec. 31, 2009. County government officials also approved an agreement for communication services between Windstream, Pa. LLC and Elk County to upgrade the present system. “We have met with representatives from Windstream and by upgrading our system, we will be able to save over $600 a month,” Sorg said. “It’s a big save for the county and we’re really happy with that.” The commissioners also approved nine burial allowances, four widow burial allowances and nine headstones for the county’s Veterans Affairs office. The Elk County Commissioners will hold a special meeting Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. in Conference Room No. 2 of the Courthouse Annex to discuss the proposed budget. Their next regularly scheduled meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the same location. |
