Ridgway hosts cross country invitational Print E-mail

The Ridgway High School cross country team hosted 19 schools and 370 runners on Saturday. Ridgway hosts Invitational

Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School was the host to the Ridgway Invitational Saturday morning.
Ridgway coach Marlin Konen said 19 schools and 370 runners registered for the event. In the girls' race, Dani Kocjancic of Kane was the overall winner with a time of 19:03. Kady Weisner of Elk County Catholic was the Lady Crusaders' top finisher with a time of 19:43, good for third.
Anna Polaski had the top time for the Ridgway team with a time of 21:12, 12th overall in the race. Hannah Lampman had a time of 21:43, 20th overall. Teammate Alexis Konen was right behind with a time of 21:49. Katie Singer of ECC was next with a 21:50 and Adrienne Polaski had a time of 22:25 for ECC. Maggie Sorg had a 22:38 (31st) for the Lady Crusaders and Megan Werner was 42nd with a time of 23:02. Hannah Pontzer had a time of 23:21. Stephanie Sherry of ECC had a time of 24:26.
Bryton Dybowski ran a time of 24:38 for Ridgway. Rachel Buehler had a time of 31:06.
"The girls were right around their usual times," Konen said. "We had a full girls team for the first time and they were only 15 seconds off the first-place time."
Elk County Catholic was fourth in the team standings and Ridgway was seventh.
In the boys' race Bud Plaszenski of DuBois Area was the overall winner with a time of 16:13, a new meet and course record.
"He ran really well and had a nice time," Konen said.
Teammate Mike Robinson of DuBois had a 16:46 for second place and Matthew White of Bradford had a third-place finish with a time of 17:00. Justin Huey of St. Marys had a time of 17:08, fourth place. Orion Bernard of Oswayo Valley had a time of 17:12 for fifth.
Chris Antonio was the top finisher for ECC with a time of 17:49, 11th overall. Cody Schreiber of Ridgway had the top time for Ridgway with a time of 19:21. Teammate Jesse Wolfe had a time of 19:34, 39th overall. Max Palmer had a time of 22:49 for Ridgway.
"They dropped their times by about 30 seconds in the meet," Konen said.
Overall, the runners had a clear, sunny day and things seemed to go well.
"There wasn't any problems and no mud," Konen said.
In the junior high girls' race, Abbie Lampman for the Ridgway team had a time of 11:32 for seventh and Kathryn Polaski for the Ridgway team ran a time of 11:53 for 10th. ECC's Kennedy Weisner was the winner with a time of 10:20. Allison Dybowski ran a time of 13:38.
Ridgway hosts DuBois and Elk County Catholic on Oct. 16 at 4 p.m.
