JOHNSONBURG – In a game with twists and turns all the way to the end, Johnsonburg's last shot of the night turned out to be the winning shot. Dylan Dwyer scored with 5:19 left in the second overtime period to give the Rams a 4-3 victory over Brockway last night. "Hats off to Brockway," Johnsonburg coach Lance Rezmerski said. "They stepped it up." Dwyer's goal came off of a Johnsonburg throw-in deep in Brockway's end of the field to give the Rams the victory. "Dylan Dwyer, he was going pretty hard," Rezmerski said. "He's a senior and he wants to win and make the playoffs." Brockway's offense came in the form of Dan Golemboski. Golemboski scored the first of his three goals on the night from approximately 15 yards away to give the Rovers a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes in. Tim Jones answered for the Rams, heading a ball softly into the goal on a scramble right in front of Brockway's goalmouth with 20 minutes left until halftime. The Rams and Rovers went into halftime tied at 1-1. In the second half, Johnsonburg took the lead on a long individual run by Louie Imbrogno nine minutes into the half. Brockway answered on a penalty kick from Golemboski just 26 seconds later. The penalty kick was drawn on a handball from Johnsonburg's defense in the Rams' own penalty area. Brockway overtook the Rams with 13 minutes left in the half as Golemboski scored off a corner kick to give the Rovers a 3-2 lead. Just a minute later, Imbrogno got loose at midfield and with another long individual run tied the score. "Louis stepped it up," Rezmerski said. "We saw a mismatch with his speed and we were able to take advantage of it." Another key to the Rams' win was goalkeeper Dan Logue. Logue had over 10 saves in the win and also got the help of the goalposts and crossbar. Brockway had three shots go off of the crossbar and the posts. Brockway played over half the game with just 10 players as the Rovers had a defender sent off with a red card with 10 minutes left in the first half. Rezmerski said he was impressed with Brockway's effort as the Rovers had to play 11-on-10. "They stepped it up," Rezmerski said. "Our team can learn an example from that. They felt they had to step it up. At times they outplayed us with 10." Johnsonburg (3-2) travels to Coudersport for a 6:15 p.m. game on Thursday. |
