The Ridgway Borough Police Department confiscated five marijuana plants yesterday afternoon as the result of an ongoing investigation. The plants were found along the Clarion-Little Toby Rail Trail, just off the main path. The plants, standing about 1-foot in height, had not reached maturity and were found in an 8-foot by 8-foot plot. Officers also found buckets and other tools used for the cultivation of the illegal plant. "This morning at 9 a.m., Officer Geci and I went down to the rails to trails - it was off the rails to trails - and we confiscated a small portion of the field. There is still more in that area," Police Chief Ralph Tettis said. "We did confiscate part of it and there will be arrests forthcoming. We know who did it." This is the second bust concerning the cultivation of marijuana in 7 days. "This is the second confiscation we have made in two weeks," Tettis said. "There will be several arrests following this. We know who is cultivating this. No arrests have been made at this time. The police department is looking deeper into the area around yesterday's find. "There is another big area we are doing surveillance down there," Tettis said. "We need help from people on the trails." The 8-foot by 8-foot plot was found just off the trail path near town. "It was on this side of the sewage plant," Tettis said. "It was hidden, but it wasn't very far off the trails. There were buckets there and some cultivating tools. We got five plants out of it. There is suspicion there is more down there." Tettis is asking that if anyone sees anything suspicious in the area, to contact the police immediately. "(We ask that) people would pay attention to things out of the ordinary - any buckets, any tools, any strange-looking plants and well beaten paths. |
