Rams defeat Elkers in soccer By Greg Reedy
The Johnsonburg Rams defeated the Ridgway Elkers, 3-1, Friday afternoon in boys' soccer action at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School. Seth Weible put the Rams on the board in the first minute, and, six minutes later, Nate Maddalena responded with a shot from outside the Johnsonburg penalty area to tie the match at 1-1. "That was just a good shot and it was something off that side of the 18," Ridgway coach James Kitelinger said. "I was happy about that. It was a big boost and I was glad we answered. It showed the intensity was there." The Rams and Elkers finished the half tied. "I thought both teams were even," Johnsonburg coach Lance Rezmerski said. "They were just like us." Johnsonburg took the lead for good when Weible scored off a corner kick for his second goal of the match. It was Johnsonburg's 10th corner of the match as the Rams finished with 11 total. "I think he could be one of the top scorers overall," Rezmerski said. Louie Imbrogno scored with 11:41 to go to give Johnsonburg a commanding 3-1 lead. "He was everywhere on the field," Rezmerski said. The Elkers host Elk County Catholic at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Johnsonburg travels to Port Allegany for a 6 p.m. start the same day. |
