NRA high power standard rifle championships get underway Print E-mail

The high power standard rifle competition kicked off Thursday at the Ridgway Rifle Club's high power range.
The format is the same as the smallbore competition. Each shooter gets 10 shots at silhouette targets of a chicken, a pig, a turkey and a ram. A 40 is a perfect score.
Mark Pharr of Round Rock, Texas was the matchwinner for the first day with a score of 34. Agustin Sanchez Jr. of Riverside, Calif. was second with a score of 33 and Dennis Dadian of Clovis, Calif. took third with a score of 32.
In the special award, Laura Goetsch of Whites Creek, Tenn. was the top women's finisher with a score of 30. John Shaw of Blackwood, N.J. was the top Senior finisher with a 27 and Kolby Rasmussen of Lavaca, Ark. was the top Intermediate Junior finisher with a 21. Jorge Velasquez of Mexico was the top sub-junior with a score of 18.
Greg Engel of Flossmorr, Ill. was the Master class winner with a score of 31. Derek Greenaway of Howard was second with a score of 30 and Laura Goetsch of Whites Creek, Tenn. was third with a score of 30. Jared Perry of Porterville, Calif. took fourth with a 30 and Dennis Martinen of Yakima, Wash. was fifth with a 29. Joy Cox of Phoenix, Ariz. was sixth with a 28 and Ben Marzella of Ridgway was seventh with a 28. William Motl of Porter, Texas took eighth with a 28 and Peter Sedman of Clifford, Ontario, Canada took ninth with a 28. Eric Boos of Little Rock, Wash. was 10th with a 28.
In AAA class, Jerry Rains of Aurora, Colo. was the class winner with a score of 30. Neil Wright of Anchorage, Ala. was second with a 28 and Enrique De La Pena of Mexico was third with a 27. Shaw was fourth with a 27 and Jerry Tureau of Baton Rouge, La. was fifth with a 26. Teresa Everheart of Albuquerque, N.M. was sixth with a score of 24 and Richard Franke of Clinton Township, Mich was seventh with a 24. Jim Hebenstreit of Peoria, Ariz. was eighth with a score of 24 and Matt Pavlik of Russellton was ninth with a score of 22.
Brian Launer of Johnsonburg was the AA class winner with a score of 24. Jon Petersen of Warren was second with a 23 and Dan Brown of Shelby, N.C. took third with a score of 23. David Gillispie of Reedsville, W. Va. was fifth with a score of 21 and James Severin of Joplin, Mo. took sixth with a score of 21. Tim Brown of Utica, Ohio was seventh with a 19 and Fenton J. Sandlin of Alba, Texas was eighth with a total of 18. Tom Rains of Aurora, Colo. was ninth with a score of 18.
Benny Grigg Jr. of Shelby, N.C. was the A class champion with a score of 23. Ron Bain was second with a 19 and Richard McBride of Erie took third with a score of 18. Jorge Velasquez of Mexico took fourth with a score of 18 and Robert Jodoin of Endicott, N.Y. was fifth with a score of 17. Scott Powers of Clifford, Ontario, Canada was sixth with a 17 and John McInchak of Erie was seventh with a score of 15. Harry Bozarth of Charlotte, N.C. was eighth with a 15 and Donald Neilson of Wilcox was ninth with a 14.
Russell Cullen III of Trenton, N.J. was the B class winner for day 1 with a 15. Henry Lee of Ireland was second with a 13.
The championships continue today and conclude tomorrow at the high power range of the Ridgway Rifle Club.
